Experience
- Student teaching at a local middle school with remedial English students for 90 minutes, three times a week. Many of these students were English speakers of other languages and/or students with emotional and/or learning disabilities. - Student teaching at a local high school with tenth, eleventh and twelfth grade students enrolled in the AICE program. - Score of 23 on ACT - I love the English language. I'm passionate about it, understand it, and love helping others understand its beauty. I have experience working in classrooms and experience editing work for people ranging from middle school to college age. - As an English major, many of my college courses are relevant to tutoring. Two courses come to mind specifically. First, I took a course called Research Topics in College Writing that taught me how to compose essays, research topics, and form arguments. Second, I took a class titled Applied Linguistics, in the Education department, that focus on the mechanics of English -- e.g., sentence diagrams, different types of English speakers (ebonics, etc.), classroom structure that caters to ESOL learners, grammar, syntax, etc.
